Overwatch pro player Jay “Sinatraa” Won is ending his Blizzard career on a high, having won both the Overwatch League Cup and Overwatch World Cup (along with the MVP award). The 20-year-old is moving from the competitive Overwatch scene and jumping straight into Riot’s new first person shooter Valorant.
Sinatraa will be joining the Sentinels esports organisation as part of the five-person squad being built for when the game eventually releases. The team consists of two CS:GO players, Shahzeb “ShahZaM” Khan and Hunter “SicK” Mims, with careers dating back to 2014 in the esports scene. Also on the roster is Jared “Zombs” Gitlin, a professional Apex Legends player who has multiple top finishes at tournaments under his belt. A fifth team member is still being selected.
During his time in the Overwatch League, Sinatraa played for the San Francisco Shock and helped the team to win the Overwatch League Season 2 Grand Finals Championship last September. According to ESPN, Sinatraa’s last game with Shock was on March 29, where Shock faced off against Los Angeles Valiant.
The San Fransisco Shock responded to ESPN’s request for comment, “We appreciate the great play and personality that Sinatraa brought to the community, we'll miss him, and we also wish him the best for the future," the statement said.
Valorant is currently still in beta, but the esports scene has already begun, with Valorant taking part in the ESPN Esports Invitational on April 20. Players from the US, Canada, the Philippines, and Sweden all entered, with Team Canyon winning the tournament.
Valorant is currently in closed beta on PC and is set to release later this summer, but no release date has been announced as of yet. To enter the closed beta, watch Valorant streams with your Riot account linked.
